Baby Steps to Healthy Living
Like everyone, we would like to be an active, healthy family. I think I can safely say that, most people have all intentions of that goal, but it's just not an easy task! There are many things that can get in the way, believe me, I am the poster child that ran into every wall out there, lol. However, after hanging up the corporate pant-suit and moving to the country with my husband, I have had the opportunity to pause & take advantage of growing food from our land and raising animals. Now, if you knew me, that would be funny! I am known to have a 4 degree range of temperature outdoors, that I can stand, or I'll run back inside with the AC. I'm working on that issue, however, I've figured out a way to keep gardening & work on outdoor projects in the early morning or evenings during the humid heat during Nebraska summers. Winter is another story, but I'm working on it!

So, you must be thinking, why in the world would I want to post a Farm & Garden page if I'm not an expert gardener? Well, I'd like to document what REALLY happens for REAL people that are trying to garden and raise their own food for their families.
This process for me actually started two summers ago, so I'm starting this section of our website at the beginning of our 3rd year of gardening. I have to say that I've learned quite a bit so far, and have many things ahead of me. Past actually getting a plant to grow and produce "fruit", you have to really think about how to use that produce before it goes bad. So, I'll also explore how to freeze, can, dehydrate, etc. This should be a fun journey, so come along with us! Many healthy foods in a grocery store, aren't as healthy as you may think. So many pesticides, chemicals, antibiotics & other things are in our foods to make them look so good on the shelf. I think it's time to go back to the beginning and do what miracle God designed... to grow our own food! -Many Blessings, Monica |
